Angola completes $750m buyback of 2028/29 Eurobonds, issues $1.5bn of longer-dated debt

On May 28, 2026 Angola completed a tender offer to repurchase about $750 million of its 2028 and 2029 Eurobonds and funded the operation by issuing $1.5 billion of new bonds consolidated into existing series maturing in 2031 and 2037, reducing near-term amortisation pressure.

The buyback materially lowers Angola’s near-term amortisation and shifts rollover risk into the early 2030s, which should relieve immediate refinancing pressure and may compress secondary spreads on remaining 2028/29 stock. The longer-dated issuance, priced inside higher yields, establishes a liability-management reference that other African oil exporters may use when planning similar maturity extensions. This does not by itself imply specific secondary price moves without market data.
