Moody's keeps Cameroon at Caa1 with stable outlook, flags liquidity and refinancing risks
On 23 August 2026 Moody’s completed a periodic review and maintained Cameroon’s sovereign rating at Caa1 with a stable outlook, while explicitly warning of cash‑flow pressures, saturation of regional markets and heightened refinancing risks that could affect the country’s ability to meet external maturities.
The desk brief
On 23 August 2026 Moody’s completed a periodic review and maintained Cameroon’s sovereign rating at Caa1 with a stable outlook, while explicitly warning of cash‑flow pressures, saturation of regional markets and heightened refinancing risks that could affect the country’s ability to meet external maturities.
The maintained Caa1/stable verdict reduces the immediate probability of an agency‑led downgrade, but does not remove refinancing and liquidity risks that drive Eurobond spreads. Investors will monitor refinancing windows, accumulation of arrears and access to regional (CEMAC) and multilateral (IMF) liquidity support—any deterioration could widen spreads even without an immediate rating action.
April 2027 ITIE re‑admission review and ongoing IMF programme discussions (next material milestones for credit and financing access).
