Fitch says no immediate follow-on IMF financing expected for Egypt after Nov 2026

On 8 October 2026 Fitch said it does not expect Egypt to secure a new disbursing IMF financing programme immediately after its current EFF and RSF arrangements conclude in November 2026, shifting the onus for external funding onto market rollovers and other official support channels.

On 8 October 2026 Fitch said it does not expect Egypt to secure a new disbursing IMF financing programme immediately after its current EFF and RSF arrangements conclude in November 2026, shifting the onus for external funding onto market rollovers and other official support channels.

If no immediate IMF follow-on is provided, Egypt will rely more on market rollovers, bilateral and multilateral budget support, and reserves to meet external financing needs. That raises the probability of higher term premia and refinancing pressure on sovereign eurobonds and could increase contingent risks for banks with large external liabilities, depending on market sentiment and official financing availability.
