Kenya signs funding agreement to commission Kipini commercial spaceport feasibility study

On 1 October 2026 Kenya’s PPP Directorate and the Kenya Space Agency signed a funding agreement to commission a transaction advisor and carry out a feasibility study for a proposed commercial spaceport at Kipini, formally initiating the pre-procurement planning phase for a potential PPP.

The feasibility study is an early-stage, non-binding planning step: it will define infrastructure needs, costs and a bankable PPP model. If the study finds the project viable and leads to procurement, Kenya could face future PPP funding needs and contingent liabilities that lengthen or complicate sovereign long-term financing and credit risk profiles.

Delivery of the transaction advisor’s feasibility study and its PPP model recommendation to the PPP Directorate (study findings and procurement decision).
