Kenya announces plan to issue US$815m Eurobond (Q2) and US$500m Samurai (Q3) in FY2026/27

On 14 August 2026 Kenya’s Finance Ministry published its 2026 Annual Borrowing Plan, announcing a planned US$815 million Eurobond in Q2 of FY2026/27 and a US$500 million Samurai bond in the following quarter, adding meaningful hard-currency external supply to its financing mix.

The announced Eurobond and Samurai sales will increase Kenya’s external hard-currency supply in FY2026/27, lengthening external debt maturities but adding FX-denominated servicing obligations. Market reaction will depend on final terms, timing and demand; higher global yields or weak investor appetite could raise issuance costs and crowd out concessional financing. The issuances do not themselves imply immediate spread moves without pricing or execution.
