Kenya signals up to $500m eurobond buyback while planning a $1.12bn new eurobond

On 14 July 2026 Kenya’s Treasury signalled it is considering repurchasing up to US$500m of outstanding eurobonds, while its 11 June 2026 budget presentation disclosed a planned Ksh145.6bn (about US$1.12bn) dollar-denominated eurobond as part of the 2026/27 external financing plan.

A buyback of up to US$500m would tighten technicals on remaining long-dated Kenya USD bonds by reducing outstanding float, but the planned new US$1.12bn issuance increases forward supply and refinancing needs. Net impact on yields depends on coupon/yield of the new bond versus repurchased stock, investor appetite, and execution size/timing; favourable pricing could lengthen maturities without raising costs materially.

Treasury announcement of transaction mechanics: tender/repurchase size, target ISINs and timing or a syndication/investor roadshow.
