Mozambique places MZN45bn of 2026 Treasury bonds and plans MZN45.7bn of exchange operations
On 8 September 2026 Mozambique had placed over 45 billion meticais of OT-2026 Treasury bonds via the BVM and the Ministry of Finance plans nine exchange operations for issues maturing in 2026 totalling 45.7 billion meticais, concentrating refinancing on the onshore curve.
The desk brief
On 8 September 2026 Mozambique had placed over 45 billion meticais of OT-2026 Treasury bonds via the BVM and the Ministry of Finance plans nine exchange operations for issues maturing in 2026 totalling 45.7 billion meticais, concentrating refinancing on the onshore curve.
Concentrating large refinancing on the onshore OT-2026 curve increases rollover risk on the belly and long end of the domestic meticais yield curve. If exchanges underperform, the government may face greater external funding pressure as maturities come due and liquidity requirements persist; successful onshore swaps can moderate near-term external financing needs but shift duration and coupon exposure domestically.
Outcome of the nine planned debt-exchange operations (value allocated vs. offer) and any Ministry of Finance publication of exchange auction results.
