The desk brief
On 9 September 2026 the Central Bank of Nigeria, on behalf of the DMO, will conduct a Dutch auction offering N500bn of Nigerian Treasury Bills (N100bn 91-day, N100bn 182-day and N300bn 364-day). Bids are due Sept 9 and allotment/payment is scheduled for Sept 10, 2026.
The N500bn short‑term issuance will absorb domestic liquidity, raising rollover needs for banks and increasing funding costs on the short end if demand is weak. Higher short-term yields would raise corporate borrowing costs and could put modest upward pressure on naira pass-through and domestic money‑market rates, depending on CBN liquidity operations and primary auction coverage.
Auction results expected 9 September 2026; allotment letters and payment deadline on 10 September 2026.
