The desk brief
On September 14, 2026, Nigeria's Debt Management Office competitively allotted ₦748.64bn of federal government bonds (new 10-year Sep 2036 and reopening Jun 2038) at marginal rates of 16.79% and 16.85%, respectively, lower than comparable August clears.
The allotment reduces near-term domestic financing needs by locking in ₦748.64bn of funding at lower long-term nominal rates, which eases immediate rollover pressure on FX reserves by lowering short-term external refinancing premia indirectly. The effect depends on sustained investor demand and whether the naira and inflation path keep real returns attractive for holders.
