CBN offers N700bn of Treasury bills on Aug 26; N500bn at 364-day tenor

On 26 August 2026 the Central Bank of Nigeria, on behalf of the DMO, offered N700 billion of Treasury bills via a Dutch auction, allocating N500 billion to the 364‑day tenor and N100 billion each to the 91‑ and 182‑day bills. The sale was scheduled for bids on Aug 26 with results and allotments to follow.

The large one‑year issuance increases near‑term refinancing supply for the sovereign and will test domestic demand for longer‑dated short-term paper. If bids fall short or stop‑rates move materially higher, banks and institutional holders may reallocate liquidity across domestic bills and loans; conversely heavy subscriptions could allow the DMO to meet funding targets without immediate pressure on external financing.

Auction results expected 26 Aug 2026; allotment letters and settlement scheduled for 27 Aug 2026.
