NUPRC sets Oct 31, 2026 drill‑or‑drop deadline and says it recovered over 50 fallow fields

On Oct 31, 2026 the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) gave holders of undeveloped or non‑performing oil and gas licences until that date to disclose compliance and begin approved work programmes or face enforcement under the Petroleum Industry Act. The regulator also says it has recovered/revoked more than 50 fallow fields and returned them to the licensing pool.

The regulator’s deadline and active revocations increase the likelihood that idle acreages will be reallocated to operators with development capacity, potentially accelerating onshore and offshore activity and future production if new awardees meet work programmes. This is a regulatory supply‑side action; it does not itself prove immediate production increases or market repricing and outcomes depend on subsequent bids, financing and execution.

Affected licensees must submit compliance info by Oct 31, 2026; NUPRC may commence revocation or reallocation thereafter.
