South Africa fuel prices hit record; 95 unleaded inland R30.25 from 7 Oct 2026

On 7 October 2026 the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources' monthly adjustment took effect: inland petrol 95 rises by R3.33 to R30.25/l, petrol 93 to R29.88/l, diesel wholesale baselines rise ~R2.84–3.24/l and illuminating paraffin jumps R3.58/l, the largest single movement.

The sharp, oil-driven monthly adjustment will directly lift transport costs and therefore downside pressure on monthly transport-weighted CPI prints. That, in turn, can weigh on the rand and raise refinancing risk premia for sovereign and corporate issuers with large diesel or rand-linked operating costs, though actual moves will depend on subsequent oil, rand and any fiscal relief measures.
