Russia extends diesel export ban, curbing seaborne supplies through Sept. 30, 2026

On August 29, 2026 the Russian government adopted a resolution extending a temporary ban on diesel, marine fuel and gasoil exports by producing refineries through September 30, 2026, removing additional Russian diesel cargoes from the near‑term spot market and tightening middle‑distillate availability.

On August 29, 2026 the Russian government adopted a resolution extending a temporary ban on diesel, marine fuel and gasoil exports by producing refineries through September 30, 2026, removing additional Russian diesel cargoes from the near‑term spot market and tightening middle‑distillate availability.

By removing producer shipments from seaborne markets, the ban supports diesel and gasoil crack spreads and tightens prompt product availability. African importers that sourced Russian cargoes will need replacement barrels from the Middle East, USGC or India, lengthening voyages and raising freight and landed costs, which can pressure import bills, reserves and corporate margins and may feed through into sovereign spreads.

Monitor whether Moscow renews or widens the export restrictions when the measure expires on Sept. 30, 2026.
