South Africa petrol tops R30 as DMPR confirms October fuel-price rises effective 7 Oct 2026

On 7 October 2026 the Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (via CEF) implemented official fuel-price increases: inland petrol 93 rises 312 c/l to R29.88/l and petrol 95 rises 333 c/l to R30.25/l; diesel wholesale increases by 284–324 c/l (effective 7 Oct 2026).

Higher pump prices raise headline inflation and import bills, increasing near-term policy risk for the South African Reserve Bank. Conditional on pass-through, nominal ZAR yields are likely to drift higher, pressuring corporates with large fuel cost exposure and potentially widening sovereign and corporate ZAR spreads across the belly of the curve. The magnitude depends on CPI reaction and SARB communications.
