On 11 September 2026 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2828, a one-month technical rollover extending the Darfur-targeted sanctions (arms embargo, targeted travel bans and asset freezes) on Sudan until October 9, 2026; it also extended the Panel of Experts’ mandate until November 9, 2026.
The desk brief
On 11 September 2026 the UN Security Council adopted Resolution 2828, a one-month technical rollover extending the Darfur-targeted sanctions (arms embargo, targeted travel bans and asset freezes) on Sudan until October 9, 2026; it also extended the Panel of Experts’ mandate until November 9, 2026.
The short-term technical rollover preserves existing operational constraints — the arms embargo and targeted financial measures — and therefore maintains current frictions in trade finance, FX access and insurance for Sudanese sovereign and corporate borrowers. That sustained constraint set is likely to keep Sudan risk premia elevated until a longer-term Council decision or substantive changes to the measures.
Whether the Council moves from a technical rollover to a longer extension or changes scope before 9 October 2026; publication or circulation of the Panel of Experts’ final report.
