World Bank: Nigeria faces $6.4bn of Eurobond principal maturing 2024–2030

On 7–8 October 2026 the World Bank’s October 2026 Africa Economic Update flagged US$6.4 billion of Nigerian sovereign Eurobond principal scheduled to mature between 2024 and 2030, concentrating refinancing risk in the medium- to long-dated external curve after buybacks and liability-management operations through August 2026.

The World Bank warns refinancing risk transmits via higher rollover premia, greater FX reserve demand and sensitivity to oil-receipt volatility. If Nigeria refinances maturing USD bonds, it may face materially higher coupon costs given 2024 issuance yields near 9.6–10.4%, compressing fiscal space and raising external debt service burdens even if immediate principal runs are postponed.

Monitor Nigeria’s official pre-funding plans, announced liability-management operations, and FX reserve changes ahead of 2027–2029 maturity peaks.
